Richard Elementary School ~ 5th Grade
Inspired by a gray plastic Elephant from the "magic suitcase."

BOB, THE ELEPHANT, or AN ELEPHANT'S DAY

Bob, the Elephant eats people's hats,
especially those that act like brats.
Men take elephants to the circus and zoo.
Elephants hate when the crowd yells, "Boo."
They sound like a loud, irritating kazoo.
When people hear them, they say "Eyieu!"
Elephants stand while they sleep,
dreaming dreams of a sheep in a jeep."

Karen S. Fifth Grade – Richard sent the following two poems:

MY DOG

I do not think my pet is just a normal, ordinary, every-day dog.
No, I think he's a slob, a stuffed animal, an owl, a wolf, a prince, a hog.
He's a slob because he just lies around (with his legs stretched & tongue out) all day,
And even if I get his toy, call him, or put him outside, he never really wants to play!
But he's like a stuffed animal because he's fat and cuddly
And he really is a friend, a buddy.
He's a bit like an owl because of his eyes-
They are big, cautious, beautiful (or handsome), and, of course, wise.
He's like a wolf because his ears can stick up
And he can be (rarely) as (believe it or not) playful as a pup!
He shows a great resemblance to a prince for he gets so much attention.
And you can forget about this fat dog having one bit of tension.
He really is like a hog for he will eat absolutely anything!
From a juicy turkey sandwich to that nasty black licorice left over from last Halloween,
this dog will eat EVERYTHING!
That's why I do not think my pet is just a normal, ordinary, every-day dog.
No, I think he's a slob, a stuffed animal, an owl, a wolf, a prince, a hog.

Dedicated to:
My dog, Max

Here's a poem Katherine S. wrote in second grade:

RAIN
It drops so lightly to the ground
From cumulus clouds, puffy and round.
As all the animals scurry away
I think I'd rather stay in and play.

Dedicated to:
Mrs. Karen Aldrich, my second- grade teacher.
